The teaching of our School of Dentistry strives to apply the fundamentals of sciences and clinical experience to each other. We introduce students to the clinical environment at the earliest possible time, which enables them to integrate academic knowledge with clinical practice. We expect our students to value and practice group cooperation, and want them to understand that high-efficiency dental systems must include well-trained general dentists, specialized dentists, and dental assistants who work together to provide patients with comprehensive dental services. Our dental research has laid the foundation for the training of future dentists and dental researchers. We are producing high-level personnel who hold research and clinical treatment in equal regard, and expect these individuals to further improve standards of dental research by utilizing research results in clinical practice. In accordance with the country's educational policies and concepts of lifelong study and in-service education, the Graduate Institute of Dentistry has established the "Periodontal Prosthodontics In-service M.S. Program" for practicing dentists. This program is currently the only one of its kind in the country. The Faculty of Dental Hygiene is training professional oral hygienists who are knowledgeable, technically skilled, and excel at communication. The Graduate Institute of Oral Health Sciences is the only graduate institute in the country dedicated to research in oral health and oral epidemiology. This graduate institute trains oral health personnel capable of performing independent research and boosting the country's human oral public health resources. The graduate institute has also established an in-service M.S. program. The following are our developmental focal points:

  1. We will continue to work in our areas of special expertise, particularly with respect to cutting-edge technologies. We will create new resources, develop new dental research technologies, and use dental technology to further life science and human welfare.
  2. We will train oral hygiene and treatment personnel possessing the most up-to-date oral hygiene and dental skills. These individuals will also have the planning and management abilities necessary to improve the quality of health care.
  3. We are continuing to improve our course design and training programs, promoting and developing localized oral hygiene and strengthening the oral hygiene knowledge system.
  4. We encourage and provide opportunities for staff to participate in short-term research or relevant courses at sister dental schools in the US and other leading nations. We also encourage students to take part in exchange programs or internships abroad. We are certain that international exchange in academic and practical areas will assist us in training professional oral health specialists with a global outlook.
